Is it possible to change the look of the wheels?

Yes, this is possible. For example, this was done in the ad video below:

METHOD 1 | VC5 and vc4 USERS | use wheel texture button

Wheel texture maps can be easily customized in Virtual CRASH 5 and 4. The wheel texture option can be accessed in the axle menu. Each selected wheel texture is used for each pair of wheels per axle. This is shown below. You can find a few wheel texture maps examples in your Virtual CRASH installation area in the shapes/textures/wheels.

METHOD 2 | VC3 USERS | Replace wheel image

VC3 users will need to change the wheel image map file in the Virtual CRASH installation directory. Go to shapes/textures/concrete. Here you’ll find an image “disc1.png”. Make a copy of this image and rename it so you can switch back to this image at a later time. Next, simply replace this file with your alternative image, and you’ll see it appear on vehicles when you restart Virtual CRASH. In this case, a wheel image bitmap was purchased from Turbosquid.com, and was carefully overlaid on top of the original disc1 image using the free graphics application called Gimp. The size of the image was tuned to match the original disc1.png image which was used as a reference.

Note, depending on your Windows permission settings, you may need to first save your new disc1.png image to another area such as your desktop, then drag and drop it into the textures directory.

Here we see the disc1 image replaced with the worn wheel rim image.

Here we see the image applied to our truck. Note, the same image will be applied to ALL vehicles.

METHOD 3 | VC3 USERS | Replace wheel image

A second way to do this is to simply put the alternative image into shapes/textures/concrete, and then modify the shader file.

Here, we put our truck rim into the shapes/textures/concrete directory with the name “disc_truck.png”. We leave the default disc1.png file as the default image.

Next, we open the file default.shd (found in the data directory):

Open the shader file and locate the “disc1.png” reference.

Simply change the name “disc1.png” to the name of your alternative file (here disc_truck.png):

Save this file and restart Virtual CRASH.

You can change this back to “disc1.png” if you want to switch back to the default image.

No image map option

Note, you have the option for no image to be shown as well. Simply alter the file name reference to be invalid (such as removing the ‘n’ from png).
